Keanu Reeves Signature in Concrete

(May 15, 2019 – Toronto, ON) Yesterday Keanu Reeves became the 11th Canadian actor to have their career honoured by Hollywood’s TLC Chinese Theatre, which was originally named and is still usually referred to as Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. The tradition of leaving handprints, footprints and a signature in cement in the courtyard outside the famous location began in April 1927. The American actress Norma Talmadge was the first to be invited, which she did in advance so that the piece of concrete would be set by time the theatre opened on May 18, 1927, which also became the official date of her signing. It was thought to be the most spectacular theatre opening in motion picture history.
Mary Pickford was the first Canadian and the second person to be so honoured when she and husband Douglas Fairbanks left their signatures in cement on April 30, 1927. Other Canadians include Marie Dressler on January 31, 1931 and Deanna Durbin on February 7, 1938.
More recently, William Shatner and James Doohan along with the cast of Star Trek and its creator Gene Roddenberry signed in on December 5, 1991. Jim Carrey made his mark on November 2, 1995.
Yesterday, May 14, 2019, it was Keanu Reeves’ turn, just ahead of the release of the third instalment of the John Wick series of films. Reeves already had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, opens this Friday.
