(October 31, 2017 – Montréal, Québec) Telefilm Canada has announced that three Canadian film projects have been selected for financing by Eurimages, which is the Council of Europe’s Fund for co-production, distribution and exhibition of European cinema. A total of 54 projects had been submitted from around the world and 30 were selected for financing. Canada submitted just these three coproduction projects and all three were selected by the Management Committee of Eurimages, which comprises national representatives from each of the member countries and meets after each round of applications to assess the projects submitted.
“It’s a hat trick for Canada as all three projects submitted were all selected,” said Carolle Brabant, Telefilm Canada’s Executive Director. “We are proud of these excellent results that attest to the high quality of our coproductions and our expertise in guiding these projects through the selection process. To obtain funding, these teams worked extremely hard to prepare applications that won over representatives from 37 countries, and were assisted by Telefilm in taking on this enormous challenge.

Sweetness in the Belly – Ireland, Canada

Canada is the 38th member country of the Eurimages – European Cinema Support Fund and the first non-European member country. This program, through the Council of Europe, aims to support the co-production of cinematographic works between member countries. The agreement improves access to international funding and helps to export our cinema.
Telefilm Canada, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017, provides funding and promotion programs, and supports dynamic companies and creative talent at home and around the world. Telefilm also makes recommendations regarding the certification of audiovisual treaty coproductions to the Minister of Canadian Heritage, and administers the programs of the Canada Media Fund.
