strongWstrongilliam Weintraub was educated at McGill University and began his career as a reporter at The Montreal Gazette in the 1950s then moved to Weekend magazine His film career spans decades including his work at the National Film Board where he served either as writer producer andor director on more than 150 productions He is usually remembered for the 1993 documentary iThe Rise and Fall of English Montreali which dealt with the migration of English Quebeckers out of the province that began in the 1960s and accelerated rapidly after the 1976 election of the separatist Parti Qubecois He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2003 The citation reads As a journalist author filmmaker and lecturer William Weintraub has played a major role in our countrys artistic and intellectual life These are his credits as a screenwriterbrbrImage Copyright a hrefsiegelloisLois Siegela Used with permission brbrbr
