Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette

Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette is a graduate of l’Université de Montral in International Studies and she received a diploma from l’Institut national de limage et du son (INIS) in 2002. Barbeau-Lavalette also lived and studied in the vicinity of the West Bank and cut her teeth on a slew of documentaries. She made her first fictional feature, the critically acclaimed Le Ring in 2007. Selected for the 2008 Pusan and Berlin festivals, it won awards such as the Grand Jury Prize at the Taipei Film Festival, the award for Best Director at the Miradas Festival Madrid and the Special Jury Prize and Best Actor at the Vladivostok Film Festival. The film Inch’Allah (God Willing) was her second feature-length non-documentary film. Her 2020 feature La desse des mouches feu was named Best Film, one of several awards it won including Best Director at the 2021 Prix Iris. Chien blanc (White Dog) premiered on November 2, 2022, as the opening film of the Cinemania film festival.
