Billy Van Evera was a comic actor who was also a talented singer. He once headlined a group called The Billy Van Four and recorded at least 1 album as The Billy Van Singers. He was the star of CBC-TV`s Nightcap during the 1960s and played many roles in the 1970s series, Hilarious House of Frightenstein. He worked in the United States on various variety shows including The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and The Bobby Vinton Show, but returned to Canada on a regular basis to appear in shows like Bizarre, the Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show and the series that helped a generation ease into the computer age, Bits and Bytes. Van Evera went into semi-retirement after a 1998 triple heart bypass, but worked occasionally on commercials. He had been diagnosed with cancer about a year before he died in hospital in Toronto.
