Karl Pruner

Karl Pruner played Prime Minister John Turner in the mini-series, Trudeau. A self-described “military brat,” Pruner lived on numerous army bases in Canada, Europe and the U.S. before finally putting down roots in Kingston, Ontario where he completed high school. By then a devotee of Transcendental Meditation, he went on to teach the discipline for several years in Lebanon and Cyprus. He returned to Canada and enrolled briefly at Carleton University to study classics and where he joined Carleton’s drama society, the Sock and Buskin. In 1977, he applied to join the National Arts Centre’s English theatre company and was accepted. In addition to his film and TV work, he has appeared on stages across Canada including the Stratford Festival.
