Charmion King

Charmion King’s career spanned almost 60 years. She appeared on film, television and radio, but was most often thought of as a stage actor and was often referred to as the “Grande dame of Canadian theatre.” Her professional career began at The Crest Theatre performing in, among others, Chekhov’s Three Sisters opposite Kate Reid and Amelia Hall. She also performed in summer stock in Bermuda and was a cofounder of Muskoka’s Straw Hat Players. She had appeared at the Stratford Festival including the 1959 production of Shakespeare’s Winter’s Tale in which she played Hermione. In 1990, she again performed opposite Kate Reid in a Hart House revival of Arsenic and Old Lace. In 1998 she starred in the Tarragon Theatre production of Janet Munsil’s Emphysema (A Love Story) in which she shared the stage with her daughter Leah Pinsent. Charmion King was married to Gordon Pinsent.
