Michael Healey

Michael Healey is pictured in a publicity still as James Ryder in the series, This is Wonderland. An occasional actor, Michael is best known as a major Canadian playwright. He graduated from the Ryerson Theatre School in 1985 and worked primarily on stage as a actor. His first play, Kicked, a one-man show, was written in 1996. It played at the the Toronto Fringe Festival but was remounted in 1997 and went on to capture a Dora Mavor Moore Award for Best New Play. He is most often associated with The Drawer Boy which was initially produced at Theatre Passe Muraille in 1999, winning the Dora Mavor Moore, Chalmers and Governor General’s Awards for Best New Play. It has been produced across Canada and the United States and was voted one of the top ten plays of the year by Time Magazine. His play, Plan B was produced at the Tarragon Theatre in 2002, in a co-production with The Shaw Festival. It won the Dora for best new play that year. Rune Arlidge premiered at The Tarragon Theatre in March 2004.
