Cheech is the film version of the stage play that was also written by Montréal playwright, François Létourneau and marks the feature debut of award-winning director Patrice Sauvé. The play was known for its gritty and street-smart approach to life just below the legal horizon. The action is set in an escort agency and takes place over just 1 day. Inside the agency several men wait to hire prostitutes and so there is no lack of suspects when the owner is found dead in his office. Who dunnit? Maxime, his assistant? Cheech, a competing agency owner? Stéphanie, a depressed, suicidal escort? Olivier, a client? Olivier’s friend Sophie, another escort? And it all begins when the agency’s photographic “book of girls” is stolen.
Cheech premiered at the Denver International Film Festival in 2006 and played at festivals around the world including France, the UK, the USA, Singapore and Russia. It was nominated for four Genie Awards.
