Sarah Gadon in The Northwoods

(May 19, 2019 – Cannes, France) Film Mode Entertainment, levelFILM and Handmade Films in Norwegian Woods announced today that Sarah Gadon and Eili Harboe have signed on to star in the upcoming Canadian/Norwegian feature co-production The Northwoods.
Gadon, known for her work in Season 3 of True Detective, and for her titular role of Grace Marks in the series Alias Grace, will play Sonya in The Northwoods, Eili Harboe plays her sister, Aly. Returning home for the first time since their mother’s tragic death, Sonya and Aly decide to reconnect on a trek of the vast Norwegian fjords. When their guide mysteriously disappears, the two sisters quickly realize that trying to outrun the horrors of their past is just as futile as escaping what is waiting in the darkness. As the ill-fated hikers struggle for their very lives, they begin to realize that something much worse than death lurks in the depths of the woods.
Harboe (pictured) is an up-and-coming Norwegian star. She starred in Joachim Trier’s Thelma, which screened at TIFF and was Norway’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2018 Academy Awards. Harboe won the Best Actress Award at the Mar del Plata Film Festival for her work inThelma. The Northwoods marks her much-anticipated English-language debut.
Award-winning director Emma Higgins will direct the film, her first feature-length project, from her own screenplay. Known for her work in music videos, Higgins recently earned significant critical acclaim for her 2018 Juno Award-nominated video for “The Drugs” by Canadian indie rock band Mother Mother. Higgins also took part in the Nordic Co-Production and Finance Market at the Norwegian International Film Festival with the film.
The Northwoods is being produced by Dave Hudakoc of levelFILM, Einar Loftesnes of Handmade Films In Norwegian Woods, along with Daniel Quinn, Jeff Pangman and Evan Landry. Paul Barkin of Alcina Pictures and Clay Epstein of Film Mode Entertainment serve as Executive Producers. The film will be shot in northern Norway and Canada.
Film Mode Entertainment is introducing the film to buyers in Cannes and will represent the film internationally. Film Mode Entertainment and CAA Media Finance are handling U.S. rights. levelFILM will handle Canadian distribution and SF Studios holds the Scandinavian rights. Gadon is represented by CAA and her longtime manager Dani De Lio at Creative Drive Artists. Harboe is also represented by CAA alongside Swedish agency Agentfirman Planthaber/Kildén/Mandic.
