ACTRA Toronto Announces Nominees

<ACTRA Toronto Awards>

(January 10, 2012 - Toronto, Ontario) They range in age from 7 to 82 and they represent a perfect cross-section of the vast numbers who make up the membership of ACTRA Toronto. They are the nominees for the 10th Anniversary ACTRA Awards in Toronto, to be presented at the Carlu on Saturday, February 25, 2012. According to Heather Allin, President of ACTRA Toronto, the nominees "include a diversity of performers as well as some of Canada's biggest names and greatest actors. It's a strong year and will make the final jury selection a difficult task. It's an impressive snapshot of the current depth and breadth of Canada's acting talent."

Three juried ACTRA Awards will be presented at the industry party in the categories of Outstanding Female Performance, Outstanding Male Performance and Outstanding Voice Performance. Following is the complete list of nominees:

Nominees for Outstanding Performance - Female:
Jayne Eastwood (Down the Road Again)
Jennifer Irwin (Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays - Small Talk)
Tommie-Amber Pirie (Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays - Vomiting)
Amy Price-Francis (King - Lori Gilbert)
Ellen Wong (Silent Cargo)

Nominees for Outstanding Performance - Male:
Clé Bennett (Flashpoint - A Day in the Life)
Shawn Doyle (John A: Birth of a Country)
Peter Outerbridge (John A: Birth of a Country)
Eric Peterson (Billy Bishop Goes to War)
Christopher Plummer (Barrymore)

Nominees for Outstanding Performance - Voice:
Stacey Depass (The Adventures of Chuck and Friends - Boomer the Snowplow)
Robbie Fitzroy (Stella and Sam - Box Builders)
Billy MacLellan (Afghanada - The Promise)
Rachel Marcus and Miles Johnson (Stella and Sam - Night Fairies)
Miklos Perlus (Sidekick - Eric Squared)

In addition to these awards, which have yet to de decided, it was also announced that Rick Mercer will be presented with ACTRA Toronto's 2012 Award of Excellence, which recognizes an exceptional body of work and a commitment to advocacy on behalf of all performers.

The Awards Gala will be hosted by comic, Elvira Kurt and will feature live musical performances by blues band, Raoul and The Big Time, fronted by Raoul Bhaneja.

ACTRA Toronto is the largest organization within ACTRA, representing over 15,000 of Canada's 21,000 professional performers working in the English-language recorded media in Canada. As an advocate for Canadian culture since 1943, ACTRA is a member-driven organization that continues to secure rights and respect for the work of professional performers.
