Carrey and Carell Together?
By Staff

<Jim Carrey>

(October 14, 2011 - Toronto, Ontario) Word out of Hollywood is that Jim Carrey has been offered a role in New Line Cinema's comedy Burt Wonderstone, which is still in the pre-production phase of development. First reported by Deadline Hollywood, what is known so far is Steve Carell has been attached to the project for more than a year. While Carrey's name is being floated in the media, most sources agree that no one is talking money yet and in Hollywood, like everywhere else, money talks.

Burt Wonderstone is about a successful Las Vegas magician whose partner dies in a risky stunt. The magician -- Burt Wonderstone (played by Carell) -- has to rediscover his love for magic and defeat a rival magician, the role that is being offered to Carrey. His character is a "hip street magician" who steals Wonderstone's thunder.

Most see this as a natural pairing. Carrey and Carell have worked together several times. Carell had a role in Carey's 2003 film, Bruce Almighty and in the 2008 animated feature Horton Hears a Who! Carrey made a cameo appearance in the season finale of The Office before Steve Carell left that show.

Don Scardino, who has directed more than 70 episodes of 30 Rock has been tagged to direct the comedy. Canadian writer and director Jason Reitman is the man behind the most recent version of the script.

No production start date has been set, but it's likely shooting will begin in 2012 if everyone can agree on the more serious stuff, the money, involved in making comedies.
